New 2016 Honda Pilot

2016 Honda Pilot Overview

  • Completely redesigned for 2016
  • More powerful V-6 and a new nine-speed transmission (Touring and Elite models)
  • New styling outside, added features inside
The 2016 Honda Pilot receives a complete redesign that overhauls the three-row crossover inside and out.

The old boxy styling of the old model has been replaced by a sleeker look that shares a lot of design cues with the CR-V compact crossover, especially up front where the grille and headlight clusters will look very familiar. There is also some added size to the new Pilot, which is longer than the outgoing model which helps passenger volume. LED headlights, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a panoramic glass moonroof are optional.

Under the hood, the Pilot also gets an upgrade in the power department, with a 280-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 30 more horsepower than last year’s engine. It is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission LX, EX, and EX-L models, while Touring and Elite models both receive the new nine-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional. The V-6 now features cylinder deactivation for increased efficiency, whileTouring and Elite models both also feature start/stop engine capability for added fuel economy.

Inside, the Pilot’s cabin got a full makeover as well and seats seven or eight passengers, depending on the choice of second row captain’s chairs or a bench. Opt for the bench and there is a new folding mechanism that operates with one button to give easy access to the third-row. Standard features include push button start, air conditioning, USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, and an auxiliary audio input. Move up just one trim level to the EX however and it adds HondaLink infotainment with Pandora internet radio, an extra USB port, 8-inch display screen, HomeLink remote, and tri-zone automatic climate control. Also available are heated/ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, navigation, and acoustic glass for a quieter cabin. New options for 2016 include a Blu-ray rear entertainment system and remote engine start. You can also add a 115 volt outlet and two more USB ports in the rear to keep the whole family’s devices charged.

Honda has also added a slew of available safety technology to the Pilot, including LaneWatch and Honda Sensing, which adds a collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warnings, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Standard safety features include a multi-angle rearview camera, antilock brakes, vehicle stability assist, and six airbags.
